Since 25 years, there is a big conference on Open Source and Free Software in Europe that couldn't share the list of participants with authorities, even if they wanted to. Because there is no registration, no tickets, no waiting list. Why I love #FOSDEM, reason #5409
There is a video from #FOSDEM where the representatives of ZenDis (German Center for Digital Sovereignty) and DINUM (French Interministerial Digital Directorate)
talk about the project.
- Making Workspaces Work Together (And Across Borders):
https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event/fosdem-2025-6406-making-workspaces-work-together-and-across-borders-/
Alexander Smolianitski, the head of OS products at ZenDis, also participated in two other sessions where he presented the software developed on the German side:
- Note-Worthy Collaboration: Co-developing a Note-Taking Application:

- openDesk on openCode: Developing a Secure Office Suite and SDLC:

All videos are available for download.
No, it's actually b/c I needed a place to campaign for the #OpenSource Initiative elections and & bloggjng to do it wasn't interactive enough.
I am not sure what I'll do with this account after the #OSI situation is addressed.
As you may recall, @zacchiro, in that conversation at #FOSDEM that you mention, I pointed out that I do think microblogging is addictive and often pushes people toward baser form of discourse.
I will write more about this after OSI stuff reaches safe background level.

@nextcloud We’re ready to help you with #LiberateYourTranslations, and growing your localization community. That’s what we do, with care. We have experience and use cases with numerous migrations from TF to #Weblate. Many of #Nextcloud translators use Weblate with other projects already. You’re welcome
Do you know which sticker was the most popular with Nextcloud users this #FOSDEM? @Karlitschek also liked them, and @jospoortvliet took many of them cc @jibec @ButterflyOfFire @rakekniven
* Gerry (#FOSDEM staff friend) and myself are rocking this without guide; seeing guides is both reassuring and annoying
* #Train ticket for one hour ride is 10 Baht or 0.27€
* There is no train bridge. We will get out, see about catching a ferry, and board a different train
* End stop is going to be Mae Klong. So we will see the railway market fold up and spread again every time a train passes. For the first run, we see it from the train
using https://git.sr.ht/~akkartik/gen_site i've posted some details on my experience of using this delightful site generator alongside some musings on #fosdem https://joeldn.codeberg.page/site/post/fosdem-2025-and-gen_site.html @akkartik #lua #ssg
The European Space Agency (ESA) operates a constellation of satellites known as the Copernicus Sentinels. Collectively the system generates terabytes of Earth Observation (EO) data daily. Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (CDSE) is a free, public platform that provides access to Copernicus data and a range of analysis and visualization tools. A talk delivered at FOSDEM 2025 dives into the details:

For this year’s #FOSDEM conference, our Django accessibility team organized the "Inclusive Web" track. Here’s a recap of how it went! And recordings of all the talks

The Flow Battery Research Collective (FBRC) are building an open source battery. Technology writer Koen Vervloesem did a nice write-up about their #FOSDEM talk in the Energy devroom. FBRC works on redox flow batteries which are better suited for long-term, stationary storage and less hazardous than Li-ion batteries. FBRC plan to democratize flow battery technology by developing an open source flow battery, starting with a development kit.
A few years ago, I gave my kid a #PostgreSQL elephant plushie (here named El-El). At #fosdem this year, I got a selfie with the human sized PostgreSQL mascot. I was asked today when I would bring big El-El to our house.
Time to start a new project and a new daily dev diary
Following an inspiring discussion with Schabi from the #NewPipe team at #FOSDEM, I'm planning to build a YouTube client based on NewPipe for #SailfishOS.
I plan to write about my progress every day
Once again, mostly for my own benefit, but anyone interested to follow along is very welcome!
This year marked #Luanti’s second consecutive appearance at #FOSDEM! Held in Brussels, Belgium, FOSDEM is the largest free and open source software conference in Europe. Fresh off our recent rebranding and new release cycle, FOSDEM was a fantastic opportunity to collect feedback and update people on what’s happening in the Luanti world

One of the talks I would have presented at #FOSDEM, had I not fallen ill, was on #VirtualOrchestration, and particularly my personal workflow in that regard. It sucked not being able to talk about it in person there, so I decided to write about it instead.
It's a long post, but hopefully interesting enough... I'm particularly interested to hear about how you do it instead (if you do), and if my approach makes sense. Boosts welcome!
It was such a thrill to talk about #nix at #fosdem ! I'm about a month late posting this, but here is the recording of my talk on "My Nixos-Powered Homelab" #nixos #homelab
